Question King of Rices

After checking out several GI charts, I've found that Brown rice and Basmati rice are both Medium GI foods (around 55-58 on the 1-100 scale).

I know instant rices are typically crap w/ less nutrients and higher GI so I'll leave them out.

I found that the rice with that was the lowest on the GI charts was Converted White Rice (around 38, which makes it a LOW GI carb), however, it lacked a lot of the nutrients that Brown rice had.

EDIT** I also noticed long grain white rice has a GI of 44 (still lower than Brown)

What rice is optimum for BBers, trying to gain muscle? Trying to loose fat? And why is this particular rice the best choice?

Should we not include rice in our diets at all since the only rice w/ good macronutrients (brown) isn't even a low GI carb?

I really like rice and would like to keep it in my diet

Stick with Basmati man. It is cheap and convenient. I honestly use Whole wheat pasta . I will be getting Basmati rice too.

Why basmati KT?

I LOVE the taste and it packs in way more Carb into the same serving size than brown (about 44 G per cup wheras brown has around 33g per cup) which is a plus for me b.c. I'm bulking.

They have a similar GI rating, however I believe Brown rice has more nutrients such as manganese and antioxidants.

Cut them up and fry them french fry style............they won't absorb a lot of oil if the temp is kept at 350 degrees. Also take them out before they stop making little bubbles.

Dude if it is all low GI, just eat it bro. Ask IA too what he might think dude, it's what you pay him for. If you like the brown , go with brown. If you like the basmati, go with basmati.

Basmati comes in both brown and white. Brown having more nutrients (thanks Mallet)

Still, the only LOW GI Rice is Concentrated white rice, however it lacks nutritional value so it isn't of use to me.

Looks like I should be looking elsewhere for a 'good' low GI carb source. Damnit.

But I was using and going to use Basmati as my main source of carb-
30% of my carb intake on training days
55% of my carb intake on Non training days.

Well, I'll have to wait and see what IA says for me to do.

And yes, I've always been pretty lean and I know it won't be a huge problem as Rice has always been a big part of previous diets... I will eventually be shooting or 7% Bf (in the future). I may be fine until then, and I can adjust accordingly when I get there, I suppose.

If you are worried and want to get REALLY LOW, you can eat a lot of your carbs from Apples, Bananas and berries (raspberries have a ton of fiber! like 8 grams per cup) And Strawberries GI value is like a 21 I believe.

I think that'd be awesome actually. I was leaning that way with Mallet previously.

I'd need to look into the amount of carb per servings though. I feel like I'd have to eat a ton of fruits and veggies to get enough carb for the day.

I'm definitely thinking too much about this stuff.

Yea you really are man. I know an apple is like 20 grams of carbs depending on the size and a banana is like 30 grams of carbs on average. PS- I know IA is a big advocate of throwing in berries for carbs but not ALL of your days carbs. I'm sure he will tell you the figures of what to eat , etc .etc.

Yea that sounds about right. He will probably say something like " I don't really give a shit as long as it's low GI and you meet your daily cals" .

It isn't low GI though, that's the thing. It's MED GI. Now if taken w/ protein that would cause it to have a low glycemic LOAD.

Whatever, like I said, I'll just see what happens. It's only my 3rd day dieting and I already look leaner and fuller, and Yesterday I was up a pound from 2 weeks ago.

I eat brown rice everyday for one of my meals.

Isn't it like 55 on the chart?

Fruit carbohydrates are from natural sugars. Keep that in mind.
