Default Beta-alanine

Has anyone used this. I have been reading about it and it sounds really good!

"There have been several other studies undertaken on beta-alanine, some of which are still in press. Dr. Harris recently examined the effects of 6.4g of beta-alanine on isometric endurance and after just two weeks recorded an 11.4% increase.

He also co-authored a creatine plus beta-alanine study in which they found a nearly 40% increase in power output, significantly higher than the roughly 8% gains made by the creatine-only group.

What's crazy about this study (besides me being so vague) is that the subjects were Olympic caliber athletes! More on this soon!"

Many people are starting to use this, but I have never tried it personally. Sounds to be like the new big thing like creatine was in the past.

yes, seems to be new sensation.
I've found this.

Beta Alanine can be found naturally in poultry and beef. Dr. Roger Harris research which later led to creatine on the market has also now helped bring attention to beta Alanine.

Problem w/ putting too much in witht your WM, is that it changes the molecular weight which would (in theory) slow down it's absorption which is one of it's main benefits.

It (WM) can help help shuttle nutritents alongside, skipping the stomach, but only so many at one time.

troponin (if you don't know him, he's a nutrition guru and does training for BBers) suggested not having more than 25g of other supplements like the ones you stated for every 75g of waxy maize.

I can hit up the article if you want to see it. it's on this site (and his) somehwere.

yea I read that as well, and it makes sense. What I think I can do, is skip the whey protein scoop, save that for post workout. and use the bcaa instead, keep the beta-alinine and creatine. I dont always use the taurine so I may do without.

One thing I dont understand is guys who take the waxy first, wait 30min and take protein after. dont you loose the benefits of the waxy shuttling supplements faster when you wait until the waxy clears the stomach

You guys go over board on your PWO shake, all I take is Protein, 5 grams of L-leucine, 5 creatine mono and waxy maize.

I think those that do that (and I'm going to be joining them soon once I creat my new post workout mix) are trying to restore glycogen first, and once that is restored, they move onto protein synthesis. I think it is believe that if glycogen is not restored first with a carb, then the protein will be used to restore it as it is capable of doing that- thus the protein wouldn't be used for protein synthesis and would be 'wasted'.

taking the carb first seems to prime the body for protein synthesis.

that's why people are doing something like troponin suggested~
75g waxy
8g leucine
5-10g BCAA
5g creatine.

these nutrients can/will be shuttled to muscles but not used for glycogen replenishment. the BCAAs somewhat replace taking protein but you don't have to worry about them being 'wasted' and stored as glycogen.

BOOM- you're primed and ready for a full meal or protein shake 30 minutes later allowing you to utilize protein.

This is from what I've been reading over the past month (I've spent a TON of time reading atricles, trying to understand studies, and reading about peoples personal use.

I'm actually formulating my own PWO mix right now, but I'm debating between 2-3 different mixtures.

I see what your saying. I have used both waxy and dextros/maltodextrin combos.

let me know what you come up with in your new pwo shake.

the other idea I'm toying around with is using PeptoPro (hydrolyzed casein). I'm going to be testing a few different things with myself and a friend or two and see what we come up with.

anyone else use beta-alinine. I have read over and over that it give you a tingling feeling after taking it. I have yet to feel that. not that its a bad thing. I have been using its at around 5g a day. I read that 4g a day should be good.

Does anyone know how much i should be using? and if I should take it both pre and post workout. and if I should only use it on training days?

Just to give an update, I have been using 5g of this in my pre workout shake, I have noticed a great deal of endurance while using it through my workouts. I was feeling tired at the end of my workouts, now i feel like i can keep pushing it. I only use it on workout days. I cant tell if I have gained any lean mass, as im on too much stuff to tell if its just this doing it..lol

I would give it a try, its cheap, and there is a ton of research to back it up.
