Grapefruit is an excellent source of many nutrients and phytochemicals, for a healthy diet. Grapefruit is a good source of vitamin C, pectin fiber, and the pink and red hues contain the beneficial antioxidant lycopene. Studies have shown grapefruit helps lower cholesterol and there is evidence that the seeds have low levels of antioxidant properties.Grapefruit forms a core part of the "grapefruit diet", the theory being that the fruit's low glycemic index is able to help the body's metabolism burn fat.
The Grapefruit (25 GI) has a lower GI rating than an Apple (38 GI). They are low in calories, low in sodium, high in potassium and high in fat burning enzymes. These can benefit weight loss in different ways. The low calories means we can eat grapefruit freely without consuming too many calories. A low sodium intake helps flush away excess water weight caused from high sodium foods. And, the enzymes present in grapefruit help increase fat burning. Another positive benefit of eating grapefruit is the high water content. Grapefruits are almost 90 percent water. Eating any fruit with a high water content helps boost water ingestion and research has shown that increasing water consumption can give more energy and help increase the metabolism.

I have tried them plenty of times before but I can't stand the sour taste. What about strawberries that are high in fiber and low GI (I think 21).

that article makes it sound like you can eat grapefruit and take lower doses of oral steriods and get the benefits of taking larger amounts.

grapefruit allows many drugs to enter blood stream quicker and allow drug to hit harder. one of them being buspar. eating one here and there wont have that effect but eating a few a day for days will. |

I LOVE grapefruit! I eat them like oranges. The bitter part is the skin so i strip them of the skin and eat only the pulp......you do this and you won't put a grain of sugar on them. Also go wiht the pink grapefruits, by far the better tasting and very sweet.

i am doing a CKD plus grapefruit, i def feels it makes a difference fat burning wise. just be careful with fruit and try to keep it in the AM when your glycogen liver stores are low, cus once they get full fructose can get stored as fat

without getting into alot of details (b/c there tons of articles on the net about ckd diets) i have only trace carbs throughout the week including my grapefruit, i try to get it under 50 grams. this puts my body in ketosis and forces it to use stored body=fat as energy. to restore my gycogen i have aone high carb low fat day a week were i hit around 4-500 grams of carbs.
